What is Anxiety and it's effects ?

Anxiety is a fear-based, debilitating emotion which limits our enjoyment of life and stops us reaching our true potential.

It’s perfectly natural to experience a certain amount of trepidation when faced with a stressful situation, for example, a driving test, job interview or important exam.

However, when anxiety occurs in the absence of stress, and starts to interfere with everyday life, (as it does for 10% of us) it is most certainly unhealthy and undesirable and can lead to panic attack and agoraphobia if left unchecked.

Excessive anxiety is often associated with other psychiatric conditions, such as depression.

What Happens During an Anxiety Attack?

During an anxiety attack the brain releases adrenaline. This causes the heart, lungs and other parts of the body to work faster. You may experience the following symptoms;

  • abdominal discomfort
  • a dry mouth
  • rapid heartbeat or palpitations
  • shortness of breath
  • pain or tightness in the chest
